Position: Teacher's Aide
Full-Time
Non-Exempt
 
SUMMARY 
Provides structured academic and behavioral support to student ages 11-17 as needed by teachers in the classroom, hallways or any area in which Longmore Academy programming occurs. Ensures the physical and emotional well-being of students through positive direction and role-modeling, and otherwise contributes to an effective and positive school environment by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Provides positive approaches and structure in the guidance and direction of students.
  • Monitors students to ensure compliance with classroom and school procedures.
  • Communicates with the other Longmore, Residential and Therapy employees, as well as students’ parents as necessary, regarding student academic, behavioral/emotional needs or progress.
  • Provides assistance to teachers as necessary with the classroom preparation and/or subject delivery, including outdoor activities and physical education.
  • Reports to the appropriate teacher or to the Principal any inconsistencies, conflicts or problematic situations that arise.
  • Escorts and monitors students between Longmore Academy and other campus facilities.
  • Assists students with the use of appropriate communications, decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Provides appropriate de-escalation responses to students as necessary, and leads others in following appropriate response methods.
  • Acknowledges students when entering the facility or classroom.
  • Conducts student searches each morning and otherwise as necessary.
  • Supports all residents’ treatment and behavioral goals in conjunction with academic goals.
  • Assists in ensuring the prompt transfer of resident information to RAs, Therapists or RPMs as needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in a related field preferred with a minimum of one year of prior experience in classroom management of junior and/or senior high school students required; Teaching certificate preferred, experience with alt. ed. students strongly preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be 21 years of age with current Act 33, 34 and FBI Clearances. Current PA state driver’s license with an insurable driving record required. Must possess demonstrated PC skills including common MS Office applications. Additional training or licensing as required by regulations, or as deemed necessary by the Executive Director or Principal.
