Special Education & Behavioral Health Services

Longmore offers special education services for students with the following needs: specific learning disability, emotional disturbance, intellectual disabilities, other health impairments, and multiple disabilities. All staff are trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and services provided include learning support, emotional support, life skills support, speech & language, vision, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and assistive devices.

Life Skills Program

Longmore Academy’s Life Skills Program provides students with intellectual disabilities with an adapted learning environment, with a strong focus on independent living skills training and development. The Life Skills classroom offers students the opportunity to learn in a full kitchen, including cooking meals, serving, kitchen safety, cleaning/sanitizing, and fire safety. Additionally, there is a laundry room where students can learn to properly wash, dry, and fold clothing and other items.  

Students are exposed to academic and social/emotional skills instruction at their individual skill and grade level.  Each student’s learning experience is enhanced by speech and language services, intensive reading and math instruction, STEAM programming, music, physical education, daily living skills, and assisted technology.

Autistic Support Classrooms

Longmore Academy’s Autistic Support Classrooms provide a welcoming, supportive educational environment that addresses the individual learning and sensory needs of students with autism.

The classrooms are designed to promote predictability and stability, enhance students’ skill acquisition, and facilitate participation in activities aligned with the needs of students with autism. By creating environments that foster engagement, we help students become more independent in navigating classroom routines and everyday activities.

Extended School Year

Summer school provides an opportunity for credit recovery and enrichment. An individual student’s risk for regression and recoupment can determine the need for the Extended School Year (ESY) program. ESY helps maintain previously acquired skills.

All students benefit from a very small class size, which enables teachers to provide personalized learning opportunities. Each teacher also builds incentives over the summer school program through the classroom store, positive behavior support, field trips, use of the campus as an outdoor classroom, and access to the on-campus pool.

Enrolling at Longmore

Admission to Longmore Academy is a straightforward and supportive process. Student referrals can come through a student’s home school district, a mental health caseworker, or by contacting us directly.

Once a student is referred, our team conducts an academic screening using Math indicators (MLI and GMADE) and Reading indicators (RLI and GRADE), providing our teachers with a thorough understanding of each student’s strengths and areas for growth. For students ready for more advanced or AP-level work, we incorporate online platforms like IXL and Edgenuity to meet them where they are and keep them challenged.

Every child at Longmore receives a truly individualized education. IEPs are carefully reviewed by our staff to ensure our therapeutic environment is the right fit for a student’s unique needs. We also accept general education students.
