We are so excited to welcome our first class of kindergarteners this fall. We can’t wait for our innovative Kindergarten classroom to be filled with the energy and laughter of our youngest learners.Â
Designed for children who need additional support as they begin their educational journeys, this program offers individualized instruction for young learners with developmental, emotional, behavioral, or psychological needs, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, anxiety, trauma histories, or other mental health challenges.
What is Therapeutic Kindergarten?
Longmore’s therapeutic kindergarten meets each child exactly where they are. Our therapeutic kindergarten provides a safe, supportive space where individual attention and intervention are woven directly into learning and social experiences. Rather than separating academics from emotional support, we build the two together from day one.

What Makes Longmore’s Program Different
- A Safe and Nurturing Space. Our innovative classrooms were designed in partnership with the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh and include calming areas, sensory zones, and interactive stations that give children room to learn and to regulate at their own pace.
- A Therapeutic Curriculum for School Readiness. Our kindergarten curriculum follows PA Learning Standards for Early Childhood and PA Core Standards. We also emphasize foundational play-based learning, math literacy, early literacy, and social-emotional development, tailored to each student’s needs.
- Specialized Educator Training. Our state-certified special education teachers are trained in specialized strategies that build resilience and confidence, as well as academic readiness.
- Outdoor Enrichment. MHY’s 50-acre campus is nestled in nature and includes trails, gardens, and a playground, and provides flexibility for unique outdoor learning opportunities.
Support That Extends Beyond the Classroom
We know that each child’s path looks different. For some students, kindergarten at Longmore may be a stepping stone toward readiness for a traditional classroom setting. For others, it may be the start of a longer relationship with our school. As with all Longmore students, we develop individualized education plans and explore every available placement option to make sure each child ends up where they will thrive.

How to Refer a Student
Students can be referred to therapeutic kindergarten through their home school district. Our team is ready to support families and districts through every step of that process.
